Philip Badon was born in Quezon City in 1957 and took up Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of the East. Sold his first painting as a student to ballet luminary Joji Felix Velarde, who saw his “Women in Forest” at the UE Fine Arts stock room. After graduation, he worked as artist at Marilyn’s Jacinto Catalogue Advertising and NEDA’s art department. Started to paint consistently on a surrealist bent in his early stage, presenting his first solo in 1981 at Heritage Art Center. Badon taught at Genesh Art Center and also at Yvonne Jurado’s Academie Beaux Arts at Legaspi Towers. Curated at Galleria de las Islas, during which time he was exposed to indigenous tribal crafts that would cast a large influence on his art. In 1987, he left for Sydney to attend a group exhibit at the Philippine consulate. Stayed in Australia for a year, spending his weekends attending festival of aboriginal use of colors from extract and plants. On his return, mounted a one-man exhibit of pastels at the Lopez Museum, 1993. Mounted his tenth one-man show at Manila Hotel in 1995, and watercolor exhibit in the same venue in 1999.
