DULDULAO, Bert


Robert “Bert” Duldulao, a native of Banna, Ilocos Norte, first had his rendezvous with painting while in college at the University of Santo Tomas, College of Fine Arts (1961). After just one semester, he transferred to the University of the Philippines Diliman. During his time, abstract paintings weren’t that popular, but through constant encouragement, Bert carried on with his work and became an art illustrator for various mainstream publications in the country. He is best know for his abstract work, portraits, landscapes, and still-life.

First one-man show: Heritage Art Center, SM Megamall (2005).

Featured in Art Across the Philippines (2005); A treasury of Philippine Nudes (2005); Mother and Child (2005); The Art Collector’s Guidebook (2005) and The Lives and Loves of Artists and Models (2006). Affiliations: Aquarellists (since 2000) Art Studies: UST (1961); U.P.-Diliman (1962).

Magazine illustrator in the following publications: In the Grade School (1961); Tagumpay (1963); Liwayway publications (1965-88).

Staff artist: Makabayan Publications(1965-67); Leader (1972). Art Director: Marketing Horizons (1968); Weekly Republic (1968).

Book designer: Manuel D. Duldulao’s Books (since 1972); The Struggle for Modern Art by Purita Kalaw-Ledesma and Amadis Ma. Guerrero (1974).

Advertising career: studio manager to senior art director, Philippine Advertising Counselors (1975-88); art director, Memac Advertising, Jeddah (1988-96). Participated in numerous group shows (since 1962).
