Joey Herrera was born in Manila, 1972. He graduated from the University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1993. His mother being from Sariaya, Quezon,grew up attending the Pahiyas harvest festival, one of his favorite themes.
Has participated in a show with the Lukban Artist on invitation of their leader, Paul Escobanas. His greatest influence is Antonio Austria, one of the country’s earliest naif artist who served as his teacher at UST.
Herrera is best known for colorful fauve renditions of jeepney’s, religious processions, harvest scenes, the neighborhood store, and the nearby market that is presented with childlike clarity and charm.
He also does realist renditions of old churches in watercolor and oil showcasing his versatility.
