ROSETE, Romeo

Romeo Rosete was born in Tarlac, Tarlac, 1953 (Murals) All his Children paint and are prize Winners in National Children’s Competitions. Chemistry, Feu (premed). Painting Senior, PWU, 1976, dropping out to finish commissioned Work. Was in the batch of Abstract Artist Danilo Sibayan and Maranaw Painter Ramon Doplon. CAYA-CLT study grand in 1977 to interact with, and absorb the artistic traditions of, the igorots of Demang, Sagada, Mountain Province. His Father was a vernacular poet who wrote poems in English, Tagalog and Ilokano and contributed to (Bannawag) magazine. First Solos, were at the Heirloom Art Gallery at Holiday Inn in 1984, and Art Circle Gallery in 1992. Has participated in 16 group shows, one with PWU classmates Cusi, Sibayan and Doplon, (We Men of Womens’s) at Wall Gallery. Has participated in Tuklas and Lundayan exhibits at Ayala museum, and the Phil Pavilion Expo, Toronto, Canada, 1977. Resumed painting in 1980 after a spell of farming. jhoined the Heritage Art Center group of artists, 1982. Known for his finely done graphic-realist renditions of folk genre with the rippling effects of celtic illustration. Has a trademark reddish-brown tone with begins on his canvas with a particular shade of blue on a first coat of acrylic overpainted in oil. Is sometimes referred to as the new Botong Francisco for his loose yet authoritative figurations. Commissioned murals, (of which he averages four a year), include those at Citibank, Intl Corporate Bank, The Meralco Foundation, Unilab, and the Budget Commission. Is a member of kaisahan. Won 1st Prize, Civilization art Contest of 1975 while still a student. Other Prizes he won were 2nd prize, UE spot contest(1976); 3rd prize, Likha Kamay Art contest; 5th prize, YMCA art contest; and 2nd prize, Phil Atomic Energy Commission spot contest (1976). Eldest son Romy Jr recd the Communicators award at the First APEC Caltex DOST sci-art competition at the age of 12. Other children jose, rosette , Faye and christo are all top winners at the natl children’s competitions the rosetes have been based in baguio since the 1980’s [Family-JS].
