BELLEZA, Norma

Norma Belleza was born in San Fernando Pampanga on May 3, 1939 to a family of billboard painters. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the University of Santo Tomas in 1962. The most celebrated of her works are her folk genre paintings- including women vendors, potters, workers, and peasants with emphasis on her subject’s strength and appearance which showcase her forte in the composition of spaces between produce and figure and the masterful combination of strong and vivid colors. Hailed as a master colorist, her works are brilliantly composed and carefully distanced that the overall effect soothes rather than hyper-activates the mind.
