CAINGAT, Jun

Jun Caingat was born in Manila in 1944 and took up Fine Arts at the University of Sto. Tomas. He is known for geometric neo-figures in bold colors and texture using oil, watercolor, metal tooling and acrylic. His technique is a take-off from graphic cartooning or line-drawing, allowing the bold lines to sprout new plastic forms, applying paint with a sponge and giving a porous effect that adds a tactile element to the final work. In 1991, he studied at the Julian Ashton School of Sydney, Australia.

In 1996, Jun won over 13 other migrant artists to do a mural for the Blacktown Migrant Resource Centre (NSW, Australia). The result is an 8ft X 8ft artwork entitled “Journey to Blacktown” that includes faces and birds in flight that represents change which details dominant races trends from various eras. The mural was unveiled in ceremonies presided over by Kevin Moss, a parliament secretary to the Minister for Transport, City of Blacktown Mayor Michael Corvin, and Honourable Pam Allan, Minister for the Environment, and is currently on display at the Blacktown Bus/ Rail Interchange.
