Alejandro Celis was born in Sta. Cruz, Manila in 1937, and is the younger brother of Philippine Master Painter, Domingo Celis. He graduated from the University of the Philippines with a Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts. Following his graduation, he was sponsored by Dr. Andres Soriano Sr. to travel to the United States. He taught at La Concordia College while working in different commercial enterprises, and eventually became a professor at University of Santo Tomas, where he taught and mentored budding artists, among them highly acclaimed international artist Juvenal Sanso, until he retired in 1969.
